Herpes Zoster

Herpes zoster is an acute viral skin infection that results from reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) in sensory dorsal root ganglia. Herpes zoster is characterized by unilateral vesicular eruption and neurologic pain in a dermatomal pattern. The condition commonly is referred to as “shingles” or “zoster.”
