Febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions (FNHTRs) are the development of an otherwise unexplained temperature increase of > 1°C or 2°F from baseline or the onset of chills or rigors in a patient who is receiving a transfusion. FNHTRs also may develop in patients who have completed a transfusion within the past four to six hours.
