Commonly Used Vitamin Supplements: Implications for Clinical Practice

In national surveys, Eisenberg et al. (1993, 1998) documented a 130% increase in the use of nutritional supplements . In 1997, people in the United States spent $5.1 billion on nutritional supplements (Eisenberg et al., 1998). Murray (1996) wrote that nutritional supplementation is an important component of people’s diets because the body “senses” that it is not getting what it needs from diet and, therefore, needs supplements.
