Depression
Symptoms such as depressed mood, diminished interest or pleasure in activities that were previously enjoyed, loss of energy, feeling of worthlessness or guilt, diminished ability to think or concentrate, and recurrent thoughts of death or suicide are indicative of depression. Depressive symptoms in people with cancer may be attributed to the diagnosis of cancer or side effects of cancer treatment and can be seen as part of the continuum of cancer-related distress. Depressive symptoms are common in patients with advanced cancer, with 5%–25% estimated overall occurrence rates among patients with all types of cancer.
