When attending an in-person conference, you often have to choose between sessions held at the same time. With ONS Bridge, you don’t have to choose, plus recordings will be available through October 22, 2024. Here are a few session highlights you’ll have access to.
Planning Team Chair Erica Shasteen, RN, MSN/Ed, OCN®, NPD-BC, is the director of clinical quality and education at Oncology Consultants in Houston, TX. She is looking forward to the following sessions: "Quality Improvement on the Frontlines" and "Treatment Updates in Acute Leukemia.”
“While these topics might seem different, I believe they are closely connected,” Shasteen said. “I am eager to learn more about the nursing care required to keep critically ill patients safe—care that frontline nurses must implement, which often originates from quality improvement or evidence-based practice projects.”
Planning Team Member Katie Helsel, MSN, RN, OCN®, a clinical specialist at Moffitt Cancer Specialists in Tampa, FL, is excited about the session on “Interventional Oncology and Liver Directed Therapies.”
“To me, interventional radiology is the next big step for oncology treatments,” Helsel said. “The procedures performed are minimally invasive, with lessened side effects because of the targeted treatment to the tumor via the arterial or vascular route”
Erin Berghela, RN, OCN®, a nurse from St. Peter's Cancer Treatment Center in Albany, NY, helped to plan the session about “Head and Neck Cancer: Managing a Complex Treatment Regimen.”
“I hope that this session gives better insight into the concurrent treatment and the importance of the multidisciplinary approach,” Berghela said. She also is looking forward to the session “Meeting the Needs of Adolescent and Young Adults in Oncology,” presented from the social worker perspective.
Planning Team Member, Kasey Wilson, BSN, RN, OCN®, PMP, is an oncology project manager at St. Joseph's/Candler in Savannah, GA. As a former hospice nurse, she has been involved in planning sessions addressing “Difficult Conversations” that nurses are faced with each day.
“Historically, we are not taught the skill sets needed to approach these difficult conversations, or even know if those conversations fall within our scope of practice,” Wilson said. Part one of the sessions explores advance care planning and goals of care discussions, while part two focuses on the emotional challenges encountered when talking with patients.
Planning Team Member, Matthew Ortiz, RN, MSN, OCN®, NE-BC, a Clinic Manager at Allina Health Cancer Institute in Minneapolis, MN, shares his excitement for the conference by noting how “ONS Bridge is the most accessible and flexible conference you will find. I highly recommend the live sessions to participate in the Q/A. If that doesn't fit your schedule registering will put the best current oncology nursing updates at your fingertips.”
No matter which sessions you choose, one of the benefits of ONS Bridge is the ability to share content with the rest of the team.
