Late-breaking abstract submissions in the research and industry-supported (non-nursing continuing professional development (NCPD)) categories will be accepted from December 11, 2023–January 11, 2024. The general abstract submission window was open from August 14–September 28, 2023.  

Abstracts may be submitted in the following categories:  

• Advanced practice 
• Clinical practice  
• Leadership—new this year! 
• Management/staff education  
• Radiation 
• Research  
• Quality improvement  
• Industry-supported (Non-NCPD) 

Authors should submit their work within the category that they feel best fits. Once an abstract has been submitted to a category, neither the author nor ONS is able to change the category. Note: Abstracts submitted to the research category should be rigorous research studies, not evidence-based practice or quality improvement projects.

The primary author should be a licensed healthcare individual and have knowledge of the information being submitted. Up to six authors are allowed by the abstract submission platform, but only the primary author will receive communication from ONS regarding the abstract and will be responsible for uploading information. This author will also be listed as the first/primary author in the online publication of the abstract in the Oncology Nursing Forum. If the primary author is unable to present the accepted abstract, another person may present in their place, but the primary author will still be the primary contact from ONS and be responsible for completing all deadlines and notifying the alternate presenter of any communications received from ONS. The names cannot be changed once the abstract deadline has passed.

When deciding whether you are going to submit your work, it is important to review the scoring criteria and make sure that you can answer all the questions. If you determine that you have enough information to answer all scoring criteria questions, you can submit a trial in progress. Trials in progress abstracts will only be accepted as posters, if scored high enough to make the cut score.

No, ONS does not accept abstracts that have already been presented at another national meeting or previously published. However, if it has been presented at a local conference or has different endpoints or results than what was previously presented, it may be submitted for ONS Congress.  

Abstract notifications for the general call will be sent in mid-November 2023. Notifications for late-breaking abstracts will be sent in mid-February 2024. You may need to check your junk or spam mailbox; the email will come from ons@confex.com.  

All abstracts are scored and then ranked according to score. A panel then determines a cut score for oral abstracts, posters, and declined abstracts. The highest scored abstracts are accepted as oral abstracts and placed into a session with three other similarly themed abstracts. The next set of abstracts are accepted as posters that will be presented during the moderated poster sessions and will be available online in the meeting app and website. All accepted abstracts are published online in the Oncology Nursing Forum. 

Once an abstract is accepted for presentation at ONS Congress, it may not be presented at another conference until the end of ONS Congress. You may withdraw your abstract from the other conference, or, if desired, from ONS Congress.  

Once you have submitted your abstract and it has been accepted, you are not able to make any changes to the abstract, the category in which it was submitted, or authorship. However, if accepted, you may modify the information submitted for your presentation, especially if you have results from your project or research.   

Abstracts can be withdrawn through the abstract submission center prior to the submission deadline. After the submission deadline, please email conferences@ons.org for any withdrawal requests.

Yes, ONS will accept late-breaking Research and Industry-supported (non-NCPD) abstract submissions for the 2024 ONS Congress from December 11, 2023—January 11, 2024. 

Notifications for late-breaking abstracts will be sent in mid-February 2024.

All posters are displayed in an electronic format on a monitor during ONS Congress. PowerPoint^® works well for creating the poster. You will also be asked to submit a short audio recording giving more detail about your project or research. This is for those viewing the poster independently. More detailed instructions for creating your poster and recording will be included in your poster acceptance letter.  

Poster presentations are exactly 10 minutes long and automatically advance to the next presentation when the allotted time has been reached. Please build in time for attendee Q&A.  

Because of the volume of poster presentations at ONS Congress, presentation slot changes cannot be accommodated. If you are unable to attend your assigned time slot, you may have another author present the poster. If no authors are able to attend the presentation, the poster will still be shown on the monitor for its assigned 10 minutes.

Yes, you must attend the entire poster session. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before it begins to get comfortable at your monitor.  

Attendees can access all posters online and print them through the website. You may bring other handouts with you, but they cannot be left at the poster station as ONS does not provide storage for handouts. 

No. Only oral abstract presenters and invited speakers need to register with a speaker code.

Your oral abstract will be scheduled with other presenters in a one-hour session. Each presentation will be scheduled for 15 minutes, which includes time for Q&A.
