A novel stem cell transplantation strategy reduces both the incidence and severity of chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients with acute leukemia, researchers reported in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The investigational treatment removes naïve T cells from donor cells before transplanting into patients.

The 2022 virtual ONS Bridge™ conference returns this fall on September 13 and 15! The 2023 ONS Congress theme is Rejuvenate, Refocus, and Revitalize–and your abstract submission may help oncology nurses generate new energy as part of this exciting conference. An abstract is a short report of a research study or project that describes your work’s significance, objectives, interventions, findings, and how those results affect practice.

One of the many exciting sessions at ONS Bridge 2022 features cannabinoids and their use in patients with cancer. How many patients (and friends and family) have asked you about using medical marijuana or cannabidiol (CBD) for any number of reasons? This year’s session on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, will give you more information on their safety and legalities for patients with cancer and how to equip your patients to use them in an informed way.   

Cancer has affected my family, and I believe that experience made me more empathetic toward my patients. As an undergraduate nursing student, I had the privilege of participating in the Susan D. Flynn Oncology Fellowship program, which truly enabled me to appreciate just how special oncology nursing is before I entered the workforce. I have and always will continue to carry the lessons I learned from the experience throughout my professional career, and the opportunity it opened for me to get involved in ONS gave me an incredible resource and community as I advance in my practice.
